Japan's Flag

Introduction

Hello and welcome to my blog about the things you need to know if you plan to travel, move to Japan, or visit as a tourist. I will be telling you about the advantages and disadvantages of living in Japan if you plan to move or if you are going for a visit.

Do you have any knowledge or experience about Japan? Do you have plans to go either to live or to visit? Please stay with me, and I will try my best to give you as much information as you will need if you plan to travel in the near future.

Japan is a very beautiful country, with a rich cultural heritage that spans thousands of years, giving it a unique traditional feel. Now, I will share the advantages and disadvantages of living in Japan or visiting. Let’s start with the advantages.

Pros of Living in Japan

1. Excellent Public Transport System

One of Japan’s best perks is its reliable and convenient public transport system. There is hardly any need to drive in Japan because public transportation is always on schedule. Whether you want to use a taxi, bus, or train, you can be sure of efficient service.

2. Incredible Food

Japanese food is recognized worldwide for being both delicious and healthy, with a wide variety to choose from. Due to the freshness of their food, Japan has one of the highest life expectancies in the world. If you plan to visit or stay in Japan, here are some of their most popular dishes:

        -Katsu Bowls with Tonkatsu Sauce

      -Kare-Raisu (Japanese Curry Rice)

3. Safe Living Environment

Japan is considered one of the safest countries in the world, according to the Global Peace Index. Whether you are exploring during the day or at night, you can feel secure. Most convenience stores are open 24/7, making it easier to find help when needed. However, even though Japan is peaceful compared to many other countries, it’s still important to exercise caution and avoid taking safety for granted.

4. Strong Job Market

Japan offers numerous job opportunities with high-paying salaries. Popular job options include working as an:

-English Tutor

-Interpreter

-IT Professional

-Sales Staff

-Engineer

-Hospitality Worker

One of the most common jobs for foreigners is teaching English, which is available in both public and private schools.

Cons of Living in Japan

1. Language Barrier

Learning Japanese is very difficult, and the language barrier can be a challenge since most of the population does not speak English. This can make everyday communication difficult and may limit job opportunities for foreigners.

2. High Cost of Living

The cost of living in Japan is a crucial factor to consider, whether you plan to visit or stay. Cities like Tokyo tend to be expensive, even though affordable options exist. Here’s a general estimate of rent costs in Tokyo:

– Single-person apartment: $1,085 – $1,326 per month

– Family apartment: $1,116 – $1,364 per month

3. Crowded Cities

Japan’s cities, especially Tokyo, can be extremely crowded. For example, Shibuya Crossing in Tokyo sees around 1,000 – 2,500 people crossing every two minutes during peak hours.

4. Extensive Paperwork

Japan has a strict bureaucracy, meaning you will need a lot of paperwork for various activities such as applying for a visa, renting a property, or getting a driver’s license. Additionally, most paperwork is in Japanese, so getting assistance may be necessary.
