Project Overview

Teasoo Consulting delivered a Strategic Stakeholder Management Workshop for Unilever Nigeria aimed at strengthening organisational capability in stakeholder engagement, alignment, and risk management.

The programme was designed to help teams move beyond reactive issue resolution and adopt a structured approach to stakeholder ownership, communication, and influence management. The engagement brought together employees from multiple business functions and established a common framework for stakeholder decision-making across the organisation.

Delivered through a hybrid format, the initiative combined strategic learning, practical exercises, stakeholder mapping, crisis simulations, and governance frameworks to embed long-term capability within the business.

The Challenge

As one of Nigeria’s leading consumer goods companies, Unilever operates within a complex stakeholder environment involving regulators, government agencies, trade partners, communities, consumers, and internal teams.

A pre-engagement assessment revealed several organisational challenges:

  • Teams were frequently reacting to issues instead of proactively managing stakeholder relationships.
  • Different departments often communicated inconsistent messages to external stakeholders.
  • Ownership of stakeholder relationships was not always clearly defined.
  • Stakeholder engagement records were maintained through fragmented spreadsheets and informal systems.
  • Regulatory engagement and escalation processes lacked standardisation.

These challenges created risks to organisational alignment, stakeholder trust, and operational continuity.

Our Approach

Teasoo Consulting designed and facilitated a structured stakeholder management programme focused on capability building and operational implementation.

Strategic Foundation

We repositioned stakeholder management from a compliance activity to a business-critical capability that supports operational continuity, reputation management, and long-term organisational success.

Framework Deployment

Participants were introduced to practical stakeholder management frameworks including:

  • Stakeholder Iceberg Model
  • P.I.N. (Position–Interest–Need) Model
  • Influence–Interest Matrix
  • Stakeholder Engagement Tracker
  • Internal Alignment Frameworks

These tools provided a common language and methodology for stakeholder engagement across the organisation.

Stakeholder Mapping Workshops

Cross-functional teams worked through structured exercises to:

  • Identify key stakeholder groups
  • Prioritise stakeholders based on influence and interest
  • Assign accountable relationship owners
  • Define engagement objectives
  • Establish engagement cadences and monitoring systems

Crisis Simulation

Participants were challenged with a high-pressure crisis scenario involving regulatory scrutiny, social media backlash, and stakeholder escalation. Teams developed response strategies, governance structures, and engagement plans under simulated real-world conditions.
