Project Overview
Teasoo Consulting serves as the Project Management Consultant for the Seplat Tree4Life Reforestation Initiative, a flagship environmental sustainability programme designed to restore degraded forest landscapes, enhance biodiversity, and generate long-term climate benefits through large-scale ecosystem restoration.
Implemented in partnership with Seplat Energy, the Edo State Government, the Edo State Forestry Commission, and local communities, the project combines environmental restoration with sustainable livelihood initiatives to create measurable ecological and socio-economic impact. The programme targets the restoration of 6,000 hectares of degraded forest, the establishment of one million indigenous trees, and the development of a high-integrity carbon project aligned with international standards.
The Challenge
Nigeria continues to experience significant forest loss driven by illegal logging, agricultural encroachment, wildfires, and unsustainable land-use practices. These pressures have resulted in declining biodiversity, reduced carbon storage, and growing socio-economic challenges for communities that depend on forest resources.
The Tree4Life Initiative was established to address these interconnected environmental and social challenges by restoring degraded forest reserves, strengthening climate resilience, supporting biodiversity conservation, and creating sustainable livelihood opportunities for surrounding communities. Achieving these objectives required careful coordination of environmental planning, regulatory compliance, community participation, and long-term carbon project development.
Our Approach
Teasoo Consulting provides end-to-end project management and technical advisory services across the implementation of the Tree4Life Programme.
Our responsibilities include:
- Project planning and implementation oversight
- Carbon project advisory and Verra VM0047 alignment
- Nursery establishment and quality assurance
- Biodiversity monitoring and indigenous species selection
- Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA)
- Community engagement and stakeholder management
- Livelihood restoration initiatives
- Sustainable agriculture and agroforestry training
- Fire management and plantation monitoring
- Regulatory coordination with the Edo State Forestry Commission
- Validation and Verification Body (VVB) selection support
- Monitoring, reporting, and compliance documentation
This integrated approach ensures that environmental restoration, carbon integrity, and community development progress together while meeting international environmental standards.
Key Outcomes
6,000 Hectares Targeted for Restoration
A long-term restoration programme designed to rehabilitate degraded forest landscapes and improve ecosystem resilience.
One Million Indigenous Trees
Native tree species have been selected and established to maximise biodiversity restoration and long-term carbon sequestration.
90% Seedling Survival Rate
Continuous monitoring, nursery quality assurance, and plantation management have resulted in excellent early survival performance.
Verra Carbon Project Development
The project has progressed through ESIA completion, VM0047 alignment, regulatory engagement, and Validation & Verification Body selection to support future carbon credit generation.
₦3 Million Community Infrastructure Investment
Livelihood programmes including poultry farming, sustainable agriculture training, and food tree distribution have improved household income while reducing pressure on forest resources.
50 Years Projected Carbon Sequestration
The project contributes to long-term carbon sequestration, habitat restoration, indigenous species conservation, and climate resilience across the Edo State Forest Reserve.
